That didn't take long
I made my decision. No border on this baby. I reconsidered the tremendous size and determined that any addition would be a bad idea. It's seriously huge. Wingspan is about 8.5 feet, and it goes from the base of my neck to mid calf when I don't fold any of the top edge down. Huge.
Here it is in the process of blocking.
And here it is draped over my cedar chest:

And the field detail:
Finally, proof that it fits through a ring. Not a wedding ring exactly, but a class ring at least :)

It is gorgeous! I finished mine about a month ago & it is sitting around waiting for the border. It was a fun knit, wasn't it?
You're right M, it is fun! The only part that was less than fun was the cast on and first row--that was torture :) The rest went so quickly, it was great.
It's beautiful, and you finished it so quickly! Thanks for sharing the dimensions and your thought on the border.

Gorgeous! And huge! I think you are right not to do the border; it looks great as it is. I came over to your blog from the VLT KAL blog. I'm glad I found it!
Thank you for posting this on the VLT blog. From the pictures on the book I had the impression that the proportions of the different patterns were a bit off to my taste, but your shawl looks just perfect.
Your new blog is definetely going to my list of favorites!
Carrie, really I don't have words, just amazing! I look at that and I am inspired. Just amazing, you should be really proud!
Lovely, lovely work!
Thanks to all of you for the lovely compliments!
Simply gorgeous!!!
LOL... I've been wanting to make this one, but as a square version... but as you say it is huge already, so I guess I'll be knitting it as a triangle instead :)
Cheers Eva
It looks fabulous! & it's perfect without any extra border.
