Invisible progress
The past few days haven't produced much in the way of knitted objects, but have been educational and somewhat interesting at least.
First off, I got several new books in the mail. I love getting reprints of the classics:
I also got a shipment from Knitpicks so I could start swatching for my Level 2 vest. I've pretty much set on doing a houndstooth vest of my own design. Probably a scoop neck. I heard people say that Palette was scratchy, but I find it quite soft and very pleasant to work with. Here's what I've done as far as a swatch I like:
I also tried lavender and cream, but didn't care for the end result. There wasn't enough contrast I think. I have several other colors to play with, and might have to alter from the pink/brown combo above if the committee thinks it's too dark.
I shudder to think how much knitting it's going to take to make an entire vest at 8 stitches per inch. Good grief, what am I getting into :)

Good grief indeed. But it will be beautiful. Do you swatch first for the committee and they decide if it is to dark or do you do the whole vest and then they say "nope to dark" because really that would send me right over the edge! I don't think it is too dark I think it is very pretty.
Very nice color combination!
Hi there
HELP!!! I have cast on the three corner shawl no less than 6 x and am close to losing it. A couple times my kids had thrown me off an done got the velcro in his jacket stuck on my Lacey Lamb yarn...Yikes! However, I think I am missing something on the pattern. I have made many lace projects and I don't know why this one has me stumped. Would you mind explaining the breakdown on row one...that's where I am lost. And to think I own a knit store and LA, CA.
Thanks so much-Liz
Hey Laura, since it was questionable, I sent a photo of the swatch to one of the committee members. She said it was perfectly fine, so I'm good to go!
Liz -- I feel for you! That cast on is brutal! Let me see if I can help here...You've got the 624 stitches cast on. It says to put a marker in the center (after 312), I'd also put markers after the first 2 stitches and before the last 2.
So your first 2 stitches are stockinette, then you start chart A.
First off, it's K2, yo, k2tog, yo, sk2p.
Then you repeat these thirteen stitches across the row (23 times):
yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, sk2p
then when you're nearing the center marker you should have four stitches left where you'll work: yo, ssk, yo, k2
At the center marker just start the beginning of the chart again, then work your 2 edge stitches in stocking stitch and you're done with the worst row in the entire shawl.
I hope this helps somewhat! You can email me if you need to send pictures or something like that. I'm at zzinnizz at yahoo.com.
